I am an AMRITDHARI GIRL, and in my SIKH religion, women (and, even men) can not cut, snip, scissor, shave, wax, pluck, burn or remove hair or tress from any part of the body (not even 'hidden' parts, including underarms, pubes and eyebrows). However, 8 months ago, when I got admission in a US University, I had to join for a job, to make both ends meet. But, there was no job. A friend of mine informed me that I can work in a salon, or a boutique, about which she knew. I hated salons, as they cut hair there, and it is not allowed in my faith, nor I like it. It is odious, to get hair trimmed, or worst, to cut it. So, I went to SHALIMAR boutique, but the owner told me that there is not vacancy yet, and so I should look elsewhere. She informed me that there was vacancy, but a short-haired girl just joined it.
So, I went to the SALON, unwillingly. There the hairdresser madam told me that they hire only those girls, whose hair is well-styled. I used to cover my head with a dupatta, as is instructed in my religion, and so, I was shocked to listen that and I retorted back, "Is my hair not well-styled?" She replied, "No, ur hair is tied tight, and u need to untie it, and keep it open, and if there are split ends, you need to trim it." Now, I said outright, that there are no split ends, at which she asked if I trim my hair, regularly. I was shocked, as I told her that cut, trim is not allowed in my faith.
She said, "Okay, untrimmed hair gals are not allowed in my salon." While she was about to show me the door, I asked her what should I do, and rest is HISTORY. She untied my hair, hip-touching and heavy, but silky and shining, as it was, and ordered the 'girl' to bring scissors. I had never cut hair from any part of the body. So, I was hesitant but helpless. She took the whole hair in her hands and with one stroke snipped/cut it down, and I had trimmed tresses, lying down on the floor, making a scaring scene, and upto shoulders lied my hair. Then she got me seated on a chair before the mirror and called another expert to make my hair straight and blunt.
Within a few minutes, there was a new BIPASHA there. I took off my kirpan, the symbol of AMRITDHARI Sikh, put it down in the dupatta, and was just to be out, when the lady with the scissors said, "What about ur eyebrows, see.... they are so over, thick and unmade for long! Make it too!"
I had no idea of eyebrow 'making' or 'unmaking' and I told her that I am not going to 'make' it, as it is not allowed in Sikhism, and I always hated girls who made it, as one looks as if one is in a constant state of surprise and shock, but she said, "now, when u have cut ur hair, why u object to eyebrow making?" She had the logic and I had the seat, and within seconds, my eyebrows were made, and then she simply asked me to take off the kurta (conventional shirt)and applied some heated wax on the underarms, and, plucked off the 'sacred hair' from armpits too. I could not object a bit, and then she took me in another room, where another 'hair-removal' session of half an hour removed all hair from my flesh, and, when I looked wsa back to the front door, to make the payment, I looked into the mirror, and I told the madam, "Is this the mirror? There is no reflection of mine here, some extremely beautiful girl is reflecting here." She laughed and replied, "This is you, BIPASHA." I could not believe myself, as I was anew.
I became more pretty, gorgeous, hot and sexy, but there is one thing in my mind, "ALL FOR A JOB." I broke away from SIKHISM, for the sake of job, for my life. There are SIKHS like Bhai Taru Singh, who died for the faith, religion and Sikhism, and there are people like us, who do such things. The people like this HAIRDRESSER, who force us to do so are no less to blame.
Can I sue her too? If yes, I am ready to file a case against her. Now, I have become used to that 'snip-snip' process, and have even started liking this 'cutting' life style, and in my salon, I too often see girl with long and heavy tresses, braided getting cut-off, on daily basis and have become an expert in cutting, but still the sense of SIN still follows me like a ghost always.........

What's wrong with long hair? Long hair are a girls diamonds. Short hair bores to soon.
